The Municipal House is one of the most beautiful buildings in Prague and one of the monuments most visited and most photographed by tourists coming to Prague. You will find interesting things inside the Municipal House, for example one of Prague’s best concert halls or a wonderful French restaurant. However, the exterior, especially the decorated front of the Municipal House building, is what visitors admire the most. The Municipal House is the landmark example of the Art Nouveau architecture in Prague.
Prague Municipal House Location
The Municipal House is located at the eastern border of Prague Old Town, where the posh shopping street Na Prikope enters Namesti Republiky (Square of the Republic). Other interesting buildings next to the Municipal House include the gothic Powder Gate (going through this gate would bring you to the Old Town Square in a few minutes) and the headquarters of Czech National Bank.
How to Get to Prague Municipal House
The easiest way to get to the Municipal House is by metro. Get off at the station “Namesti Republiky” (on the yellow B line). Make sure to exit the metro station in direction to the Old Town and Namesti Republiky and not to Masarykovo Nadrazi. One last thing: the Municipal House is called “Obecni dum” in Czech.
