Prague State Opera

Althout far less known than Vienna State Opera, Prague also has its opera house. It is located near Wenceslas Square, halfway from National Museum to Hlavni Nadrazi (Prague main train station).

Opera House on a Highway

The location of Prague State Opera building is not very lucky – it is trapped between two lanes of the main north-south highway (Magistrala), which is almost always jammed. There have been plans to change this and dig the highway under ground or divert the traffic elsewhere, but so far no solution has been decided.

How to Get to Prague State Opera

Prague State Opera can easily be reached by public transport. It is located between metro stations Muzeum (lines A and C) and Hlavni Nadrazi (line C), about 3 minutes walk to either of them. During the night, when the metro is not operating, there is a night bus stop just across the street. Tram stop in Jindrisska Street (day and night trams) is about 5 minutes walk from Prague State Opera. If you come by car, there is a big car park immediately next to the opera house. Just keep in mind that traffic jams are more a rule than an exception in this part of Prague.
