Tartu is the second biggest city in Estonia and the capital of the southern part of the country. It is an old university city and has a rich cultural life.

You will find numerous historical monuments in Tartu’s centre, concentrated near the Town Hall Square and adjacent streets. Among them are various university buildings, the Gunpowder Cellar, Estonia’s National Court, Old Anatomical Theatre, as well as several churches and bridges (e.g. the Devil’s Bridge).
There are also several natural treasures near Tartu, particularly the national parks (Karula National Park and Soomaa National Park) and the two largest Estonian lakes (Lake Peipus at the border with Russia and Lake Vörtsjärv to the west of Tartu).
