Vienna Erdberg Bus Station (VIB)

Erdberg is the main international bus station in Vienna. Most international buses, including Eurolines and Flixbus, arrive and depart here. This page provides directions and other useful information for travelling through Erdberg station.

Note that in different timetables and other resources the station may appear under different names. Besides Vienna or Wien Erdberg, it is often listed as VIB, which stands for Vienna International Busterminal, or Wien ZOB, which means Zentraler Omnibusbahnhof (central bus station in German), or as Erdbergstrasse 200a (the street address). All these refer to the same station.

Bus Station Location

Erdberg bus station is situated in the 3rd district (Landstrasse) in the south-eastern part of Vienna. It is quite far from the city centre – about 3-4km from the first district (Innere Stadt). Erdberg is also the name of the entire neighbourhood and, most importantly, also the name of the metro station that is right across the street from the bus terminal.

Erdberg Bus Station to City Centre

The metro is by far the best and fastest way to get from the bus station to Vienna city centre. Erdberg metro station is on line U3 and it is 4 stops to Wien-Mitte (a train station which despite its name is not in the middle of the city), 6 stops to Stephansplatz (St Stephen’s Cathedral and the true midpoint of the city), or 8 stops to Volkstheater (near the parliament and city hall). The ride to these central locations takes 10-15 minutes. More detailed directions for different places in the centre are available here.

To get from Erdberg to the main train station (Wien Hauptbahnhof), transfer to S-Bahn at Wien-Mitte, or to metro line U1 at Stephansplatz. Either should take 20-25 minutes.

Trams and Local Buses from Erdberg

Besides the metro, there are a few local buses, including a night bus, stopping directly in the street in front of Erdberg bus station.

More local buses and trams stop are at Schlachthausgasse (the next metro stop) and Ludwig Kössler Platz. Both these places are about 5-10 minutes’ walk from the bus station in direction to city centre (to the left when you exit the bus station).

Other Bus Stations in Vienna

Besides Erdberg, some international buses also stop in other locations in Vienna. A small number of carriers don’t stop at Erdberg station at all. The following are some of the other international bus stops in Vienna (they are not really bus stations, just places where buses stop):

  • Praterstern (near Prater Park and Wien Praterstern train station)
  • Südtiroler Platz (near the new main train station – Wien Hauptbahnhof)
  • Vienna International Airport (Schwechat)
