The location was perfect and very clean and friendly
An important harbour for centuries, Portsmouth counts with one of the busiest ferry piers in the United Kingdom, has the oldest dry dock still in use in the world. Its Historic Dockyard is home to famous British ships like Lord Nelson's flagship HMS Victory, the Mary Rose and the HMS Warrior.
In the picturesque Old Town you’ll find typical English pubs, coloured houses, and small independent shops. It also has a Fish Market provided by the city’s small fishing fleet. In Old Portsmouth is possible to find smaller hotels, B&B’s and guest houses, some of them not far from the ferry harbour.
The Gunwharf Quays are a modernly renovated shopping area, home to the Spinnaker Tower, while the centre has an ever-growing number of shops. Don’t miss Commercial Road and the Cascades Shopping Centre. Hotels in Portsmouth’s city centre allow you to be close to everything what the city has to offer.
For relaxing moments, Portsdown Hill allows panoramic views over the city and the Isle of Wight. During summer, its sandy beaches are a must.

The coastal area is nice to walk along. The Mary Rose & Victory Museum are very good.
Portsmouth city centre is dull, lacking greenery or planters, many shops are empty. It is not an attractive city centre!
There is a statue of Charles Dickens in the Guildsquare otherwise the area is grim.

The attraction was the harbour.
The attraction was the harbour. The ticket was expensive but well worth it. The Mary Rose Museum was phenomenally good - exciting, imaginitive and caught the attention of grandparents, parents and children alike. The Victory was almost equally good and the guides there were exceptional. We also visited the Warrior where the guide took over explaining to the children, told us an immense amount but also had us all in fits of laughter. Strongly recommended for all ages
We also very much enjoyed Portchester castle and the exhibition on the prison there (and the cafe in the church.

I come to Portsmouth regularly, a very clean city and friendly people, full of history especially naval, lots to do and see, lovely pubs and restaurants, Southsea is a must, good bus service plenty of good hotels, I'd recommend the Spice Island in old Portsmouth and the Ship Anson in The Hard Old Portsmouth is worth visiting
I haven't stayed here since being a child in the late 70's, very nostalgic and still alot of Navy memorabilia, as some of my family were Naval. I enjoyed every minute of my weekend at this hotel and in Portsmouth. Perfect location for visiting the historic dockyard and The Historic Dockyard and the Gunwharf Quays.
The breakfast choices in the morning were good, as was a visit to the hotel bar in the evening. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We Look forward to returning again next year.
Great central location, 5 minute walk from train station, 15 minutes to Gunwharf Quays and 20 minutes to Southsea beach. Restaurants and bars nearby. We had a lovely quiet room at the back of the hotel. Room was clean and comfortable. Staff helpful and friendly. Attractive communal area on ground floor which was nice to sit in. Food was good. If we're back in Portsmouth then this will be our choice of place to stay.
The Location is fantastic for the attractions in Portsmouth. It is a well equipped, clean modern property and the hosts are nice. Parking is available which saves you quite a bit at the location. This is the second time that I have stayed here and I have not been disappointed by anything. The beds are comfortable and the area quiet. Good price too for the area and facilities.
Outstanding location, mere meters away from the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard as well as the modern Gunwharf Quays shopping mall. Charming traditional hotel in great shape, spotlessly clean. My single room was perfectly suitable for my needs. Staff were friendly, helpful, and accessible. Would definitely recommend for anyone visiting the Dockyard.
Really good value for money - even with taking a taxi into Portsmouth and back much cheaper than booking a hotel close to centre. Breakfast was grab and go we had to eat in the room - it was more than we imagined. Parking free as well. My kids loved it as well. Staff were all lovely and very helpful...
Fantastic location to explore Portsmouth.
It’s right in the heart of Gunwharf Quays with all of its shops, bars and restaurants. Parking is below the shopping centre - the hotel will validate your ticket for a free first 24hrs then £2 a day there after. Very helpful friendly staff.
Exceptionally well decorated and clean rooms with en-suite at just £55/night. Friendly staff (who just completed his degree and was very positive about the family business and life- was a real booster on a cold wet and late evening). This hotel just reflected that positivity.
Staff were very pleasant. The check in / out process was very simple. Breakfast was good but very busy and seating was somewhat limited. Parked in Gunwharf Quays which was heavily discounted (free for 24 hrs) with car parking ticket validated by hotel - excellent!
The breakfast was very nice, and the location is perfect for a trip to Gunwharf Quays, and Portsmouth's many attractions, there was parking right next to the hotel, and the views from our room of Spinnaker Tower and one of the old ships in docks was great.
Were upgraded on arrival to a superior room to what we paid, the room had a great view of harbour and the breakfast was excellent. The staff on duty were friendly and helpful and the location of the hotel is ideal for gunwharf quays historic dockyard.
Very well situated hotel, just a few minutes walk from the seafront, Old Portsmouth, Gunwharf Quays and with a bus stop round the corner with frequent buses to both stations and city centre. Comfortable room and good service at breakfast and dinner.
We’ve been visiting Portsmouth for a few years. stayed in many hotels- this is the best ever. It has a lovely small feel and beautifully decorated. Super comfy beds and very dog friendly. Love it here and the restaurant was amazing too.
Good location, easy to get to and plenty of disabled parking. Room was spacious and comfortable with walk-in shower. All staff were excellent. We stayed in three Marriott hotels on this trip and Portsmouth was by far the best.
Excellent location for Gunwharf Quays, dockyard & waterfront. Hotel has on-site parking. Was comfortable and clean. Breakfast the following morning was great - good choice and plenty available. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Room very nice and clean, bed very comfortable, reception area very nice including vending machines for snacks. Staff helpful, check in easy. View of hotel car park from the window.
very convenient location, used the local park and ride to get into city centre where it was just a short walk to Portsmouth harbour, railway station and boutique shops
The Hotel is close to the Hovercraft station, Gunwharf Quays & Portsmouth Town centre. We didn't move the car for 4 days as walked or used public transport.
A well located hotel for my purpose, which was watching Portsmouth FC. A friendly welcome, a comfortable room, an excellent breakfast and a win for Pompey!
