An important harbour for centuries, Portsmouth counts with one of the busiest ferry piers in the United Kingdom, has the oldest dry dock still in use in the world. Its Historic Dockyard is home to famous British ships like Lord Nelson's flagship HMS Victory, the Mary Rose and the HMS Warrior.
In the picturesque Old Town you’ll find typical English pubs, coloured houses, and small independent shops. It also has a Fish Market provided by the city’s small fishing fleet. In Old Portsmouth is possible to find smaller hotels, B&B’s and guest houses, some of them not far from the ferry harbour.
The Gunwharf Quays are a modernly renovated shopping area, home to the Spinnaker Tower, while the centre has an ever-growing number of shops. Don’t miss Commercial Road and the Cascades Shopping Centre. Hotels in Portsmouth’s city centre allow you to be close to everything what the city has to offer.
For relaxing moments, Portsdown Hill allows panoramic views over the city and the Isle of Wight. During summer, its sandy beaches are a must.

The attraction was the harbour. The ticket was expensive but well worth it. The Mary Rose Museum was phenomenally good - exciting, imaginitive and caught the attention of grandparents, parents and children alike. The Victory was almost equally good and the guides there were exceptional. We also visited the Warrior where the guide took over explaining to the children, told us an immense amount but also had us all in fits of laughter. Strongly recommended for all ages
We also very much enjoyed Portchester castle and the exhibition on the prison there (and the cafe in the church.

I was taken to a show at the Kings Theatre , wonderful place, very old and beautiful, worth a visit to Southsea. Its my local decent shopping place to go or Southampton as I live across the Solant. My favourite eating place, Cafe Rouge have, in their wisdom, 'closed shop' unexpectantly!!!!!!

I have lived near Portsmouth for years, so have done most things there. It's definitely worth a trip if you've not been there before. Historic Dock yard and ship's, the fair, lots of pubs and restaurants, beach, gunwarf keys. My trip this time was just for a party though. 1 night and a lovely Sunday roast the next day. The shepherd's crook short walk from ibis budget hotel. Taxis no problem, £7.00 from Portsmouth Central to hotel.

Too much traffic, parking was terrible
Accommodation. 12.Elphinstone Road was not like the advertised picture and you couldn't get a refund when asked, the male dealing with bookings was so rude, no fire door in the kitchen, no central heating only heater sparked when switched on and off, bedding was soiled with blood

Hotel not the prettiest on the outside but when you walk through entrance there's an amazing open plan lounge, check-in & bar area
Room & bathroom were small - perfect for me - clean & warm
Bed very comfy
Great little hotel right next to Portsmouth Harbour: convenient for rail, Isle of Wight ferry, Gunwharf Quays, and the historic Dockyard.
Good standard of cleanliness throughout, food was good quality and quantity at reasonable price, and the staff were excellent. Knows the market it is catering for and obviously very much a "Navy" establishment.
Travelling for business - even allowed me to park all day following check-out, which they didn't have to but was greatly appreciated. Will be booking to stay again.
Great central location, 5 minute walk from train station, 15 minutes to Gunwharf Quays and 20 minutes to Southsea beach. Restaurants and bars nearby. We had a lovely quiet room at the back of the hotel. Room was clean and comfortable. Staff helpful and friendly. Attractive communal area on ground floor which was nice to sit in. Food was good. If we're back in Portsmouth then this will be our choice of place to stay.
The equidistance of the Old Portsmouth/Gunwharf Quays and Southsea seaside neighborhoods location of this Holiday Inn is probably its strongest point.Within a 10-15' walking radius, you've got all the action and sightseeings!
You can tell that you are in a global. leading Hotel chain, most of the facilities and comfort are there and ticking most boxes.Very clean room and good value for money.
Went by train from my home town in South Wales one change at Cardiff Central and then straight to Portsmouth Harbour Station (4 hours travel plus 1 hour wait in Cardiff), so would have been unhappy with additional travel.
The Hotel is directly opposite the train /bus station, so exit cross the road at the main pedestrian crossing point and straight through the hotel door.
Outstanding location, mere meters away from the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard as well as the modern Gunwharf Quays shopping mall. Charming traditional hotel in great shape, spotlessly clean. My single room was perfectly suitable for my needs. Staff were friendly, helpful, and accessible. Would definitely recommend for anyone visiting the Dockyard.
The hotel is convenient for Old Portsmouth and not far from Gunwharf Quays, in a fairly quiet area despite its High Street address. There are local options for breakfast and other meals while the attached pub is being renovated. Our room was small but adequate for a short stay, and staff on duty at reception are helpful.
Great hotel near the Gunwharf quays shopping centre and the Historic Dockyards. Ideal for a trip to Portsmouth, very well connected to the harbour train station if you don't travel by car. Room was spacious, clean and had everything for our stay. Staff was extremely helpful and breakfast was perfect. Definitely recommend!
The George is a very pleasant stay. Premises are not modern so there are not plush facilities that may be found in other hotels, but it was clean and comfortable. Price was very fair and breakfast was cooked to order and good. Staff friendly and position excellent. Thankyou
The house was absolutely beautiful as well as historical. We loved the space, the comfort, and the proximity to the seafront and Historic Dockyard. Steve was so helpful, accommodating our late arrival and providing us with resources on the history of Portsmouth.
The breakfast was very nice, and the location is perfect for a trip to Gunwharf Quays, and Portsmouth's many attractions, there was parking right next to the hotel, and the views from our room of Spinnaker Tower and one of the old ships in docks was great.
price good for the quality of the hotel, nice and complete breakfast also gluten and lactose free.
guys at receptions were all nice and they changed me room because I wanted a double bed room .
A well located hotel for my purpose, which was watching Portsmouth FC. A friendly welcome, a comfortable room, an excellent breakfast and a win for Pompey!
